American Greetings has perfected the art of greeting cards, and the company has a long heritage to thank for its expertise. Jacob Sapirstein started a small greeting card business in 1906 that he later grew with the help of his innovative son, Irving Stone, to the mammoth-sized business that you know today as American Greetings. Stone was really responsible for expanding the types of designs and messages the company provided. Today, the company, headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, enjoys the rare privilege of sharing its huge market share with one other company that you may have heard about; together they make up virtually 90 percent of the greeting card market.
