No. Wyzant uses a pay-per-lesson model with no subscriptions, no upfront payments, and no recurring charges. Payment is only processed after a lesson has taken place, so you're never locked into a plan or paying for unused sessions.

Wyzant covers 300+ subjects, including math, science, English, test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams), foreign languages, coding, music, and more — spanning elementary school through adult professional development.

Tutor rates start from around $15/hour, with the platform average between $35 and $60/hour. A 9% student service fee is added on top of each lesson. Filtering search results by price helps you find affordable tutors with strong reviews.

Yes. Wyzant lets you browse tutor profiles and send messages completely free — no payment details required. Some tutors also offer a free pre-lesson interview or consultation, listed on their individual profile page.

All tutors go through a qualification review before being listed. Students can also request an optional background check on any tutor for $15.99, conducted through Checkr. Tutors who have passed display a badge on their profile.

Both options are available. Online sessions use the Wyzant Learning Studio — a built-in classroom with video chat, whiteboard, and file sharing. In-person sessions are supported across major US cities, held at a location of your choice such as a library or coffee shop.

Discount codes are sometimes available through coupon sites. Check those sites before booking, as promotional offers can reduce the cost of a session. Wyzant doesn't run a permanent sitewide discount program, so availability varies.

Yes. Wyzant's Ask an Expert Q&A section lets anyone post subject questions and receive answers at no cost, with no account required. The platform also publishes a free blog with educational content — useful for quick help before deciding on paid tutoring.
